Canyoneering somwhere

Saturday, after stocking up on our weekly supply of goat cheese at the Farmers Market, we went out and explored a new canyon that I had been wanting to get to for awhile. Last spring the boys and myself hiked up from the bottom end to the last rappel, and I have been wanting to come down from the top since then. It was an amazing canyon with lots of cottonwoods and flowers.

River on the first rappel in the canyon

Chimneying out to the big drop off

River half way down the 130 foot rappel

River getting a little nervous as he approaches the overhanging part of the rappel

River is a brave young man, not for rappelling so much as just for surviving the abuse his uncles throw his way. Looks like good times. To answer your question Bri, swimming was not an option on the selway. I think it was up around 6 feet when we ran HAM. It was huge and at that level I could see know way through Ladle and I was prepared to walk it but the water dropped a little to probably 5 and I found a line. One guy we were with was 67 years old and has paddled it 20 times, up to and including 8 feet. He used to boat with Blackadar.
